We Love Boulder Outdoor Cinema

Ahh... the smell of fresh, buttery popcorn. The dark air conditioned theater. The flickering screen. It was magical. This is what comes to mind when I think about my early memories of going to the movies.

That and waiting in line for Star Wars.

Now you can rediscover the magic of going to the movies through Boulder Outdoor Cinema. It's a Summer tradition.

We like to pack a picnic dinner, bring a bottle of wine (against the rules, shhh), and invite a few friends. It's a great way to bring people together and always a fun evening. And this year, I'm proud to announce that we're a sponsor.

Why go to Boulder Outdoor Cinema ?
It's a more richer, more vivid experience than going to the corporate cinemas at 29th Street. This is what community is all about. You can bring dinner and share the experience with friends and family. Or meet new friends. As an added bonus, as the evening sets and the air cools, the radiant heat from the parking lot is like getting a massage (if you're laying on a blanket).

What movies are playing?
Typically crowd favorites and cult classics.

We've already been a few times this year and plan to attend more. Among others, E.T., The Graduate, and Princess Bride are on our list.

Where is it?
The cinema is located at 1750 13th St. in downtown Boulder. Directly behind the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art and next to the Dushanbe Teahouse.

What time?
The movies begin when it gets dark. Feature presentations start by 9:00 PM. In the late season of August movies around 8:30PM. Before the movie, enjoy pre-movie independent shorts and live entertainment. The venue opens at 7:30 PM.

We like to get there early to snag a good spot and enjoy the pre-show entertainment .

How much?
Still only $5 per ticket (suggested donation).

What about the popcorn?
The theater offers snacks, but not high prices. Offerings include sodas ($1), assorted fun candy ($1) and lots of popcorn ($2)! A portion of proceeds go to support the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Arts.
Bring a little extra cash and support a good cause.

What to bring?
Most importantly, something to sit on. Low-back chairs, blankets, and cushy pillows. Or bring mattresses, couches, and other wacky seating. Although it seems like it hasn't rained in ages, packing an umbrella is a pretty good idea too.
See you at the movies...
