by Osman Parvez

Looking for a local real estate news update to keep you awake this Monday morning? Here's a few articles that caught our eye...

Commercial real estate is picking up along the US36 Corridor. Investors have pumped more than $153MM into office space, including the $35MM purchase of The Views office complex in Interlocken last month. Other projects in the works include Deepak Chopra's $40MM condo and health spa located next to the Westin Hotel and a $200MM residential and retail community by California based Pacific Builders.

Don't want to hire a general contractor for that dream home? Here's another approach. DirectBuild and UBuildit are guiding clients through every step of the process of building their own custom home. Don't forget, you can also custom order your own Platz Haus.

Is Boulder still a bastion of hippies and radicals? Here's an editorial from New West's Jenny Shank. We tend to think along the lines of law professor Victor Fleischer. Here's his take on Bobos and New Urbanism in Boulder.

Denver area independent film lovers can rejoice. The Mayan Theater, recently purchased by an out of town developer, won't be torn down or put to other use but will continue to offer art-house flicks. According to Bill Banowsky, CEO of Landmark. "The Mayan is important to to us on a national scale. It's consistently recognized as one of the 10 most beautiful theaters in the country." The independent film chain has just signed a new long term lease for the building.

Finally, wondering about development and the White House's approach to public lands? Former Interior Secretary Bruce Babbit had some interesting things to say at a gathering this weekend in Aspen.
